Philosophy of Care
At our homes we follow the principles of person-centred care. Person-centred care aims to see each resident as an individual, rather than focusing on their illness and on abilities they may have lost. Instead of treating the resident as a collection of symptoms and behaviours to be controlled, our person-centred care takes into account their unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.
Maintaining standards of care
We aim to follow a philosophy of person-centred care that will bring out the best in the people who live here.
Respecting the individual
Each resident living here will have his or her own individual care plan. The care plan will summarise how staff can encourage and maintain the unique strengths of the person while meeting his or her needs for support. This plan will be reviewed at regular intervals.
Our staff at all levels have received training in how to care for people effectively. This will enable them to understand any difficulties in communication that people may face and help people express their wishes and needs.
Personal dignity and privacy will be respected at all times. Individual cultural and religious beliefs will also be taken into account. Our residents will be treated with courtesy at all times. They have the right to expect those caring for them to try to understand how they feel and to make time to offer support.
A meaningful life
Our care staff will show a sensitive approach to helping people maintain a good level of personal care and ensuring they get enough to eat and drink. The homes will offer a wide range of carefully considered activities and residents will be encouraged to take part in these, if they so choose. The staff will create opportunities for residents to spend time together and get to know each other through a wide variety of social opportunities. Residents will also be encouraged to maintain relationships with people outside the care home.
Easing the burden
The environment of the homes will be as comfortable and homely as possible. Spaces will be laid out to minimise any confusion or distress that residents may sometimes feel. Residents will also be able to spend meaningful time outdoors.
Staying in touch
There will always be a member of staff for people to talk to about any worries they have concerning their relative. We see relatives and close friends as allies in our attempt to offer the highest level of care possible.
